VERDICT

5.25/10

Hogwarts Legacy is a highly anticipated game set in the magical world of Harry Potter, offering players the chance to experience their own wizarding adventure. However, despite its potential, the game falls short of reaching the heights expected from such a beloved franchise.

One of the game’s redeeming qualities is its visually enchanting world, capturing the essence of the Wizarding World with impressive attention to detail. Exploring Hogwarts and its surrounding environments can be a joy, allowing players to feel a sense of immersion in the iconic setting.

The character customization options are also noteworthy, providing players with the freedom to create their own unique wizard or witch, complete with personalized looks and abilities.

However, the game’s shortcomings become evident in other aspects. The storytelling and plot fail to match the depth and complexity of the original Harry Potter series, often feeling predictable and lacking the emotional resonance that fans have come to expect.

Plus, gameplay mechanics are hit-or-miss. While spellcasting and potion-making can be enjoyable, the gameplay lacks innovation and become repetitive over time.

Furthermore, the game struggles to find a clear identity, as it attempts to cater to both a single-player narrative-driven experience and a more open-world RPG format. This hybrid approach may leave players wanting more in either direction and ultimately dilutes the overall impact of the game.

You feel the passion of the studio to make the game but it resembles many other RPG games and, in the end, it will be forgettable. When you think of The Witcher 3, Zelda BOTW, and RDR2 released way earlier, Hogwarts Legacy should have been more innovative but it stays very generic.
